In this post, I share with you guys my amazing experience in Lovina, north Bali. Once I arrived there I could immediately see the difference from the north to the more touristy part in the south – feels like a different Bali. In the north of Bali, you can still enjoy the quietness, the beach and the stunning view from the hills. Lovina is a place you should not miss out when you visit the Island of Gods.

How to get there

Lovina is a three hours drive with the car away from Canggu. Even though you could do Lovina in a day trip I highly recommend staying at least one night or more. To get there you will pass the mountains (hello car sickness) and I definitely recommend going with a private driver.

What to see around

Lovina is famous for its dolphin tours and of course, this was also my highlight but on the way to Lovina you can explore a lot of other great things.

Bedugul

Make sure you stop in Bedugul. This mountain lake area is not only great for pictures, having a coffee with a breathtaking view, but of course also to visit the temple which is located on the water.

At the top of the mountains, there are several places, where you can stop and take a picture from above with the lakes. You will experience stunning Bali nature, just be careful with the monkeys sitting around at the street side.

Also, don’t forget to make a stop for this Insta-Shot:

Gitgit Waterfall

This waterfall is a must-see on the way to north Bali. You will have to walk around 10 to 15 minutes to get there and if you like you can even swim in the natural pool. Of course, I had a quick dip in the water and swam a little, but I must admit was quite cold.

Where to stay and eat in Lovina

Lovina is divided in the beach part and the mountain / village part. I stayed in a private villa of a friend in the mountains and highly recommend staying at least a night in a nice accommodation in the mountains. The view over the rice fields to the beach is priceless.

BEST places to stay in Lovina..

The Damai is a villa resort next to the place I spent the night. I heard it is amazing to stay and that the villas have a breathtaking view (view pics of it here!), but I haven’t seen the villas in person.

The Starlight Hotel is located directly at the beach. I had my breakfast there and started my dolphin tour in front of the Starlight hotel.

I haven’t see the rooms, but a good friend who lives in Lovina recommended this place to me!

It is also a great option if you don’t want to spend too much money – See for yourself here! 🙂

Restaurant Lovina

The food in Lovina was amazing. I am spoiled from Canggu and Seminyak but was surprised at all the yummy dishes I had there. Check out these places for great food and amazing atmosphere.

The Damai: Impressive Restaurant and place to stay in the hills. I had lunch here and couldn’t have been happier with it. Everything was amazing and they have a big menu.

Spice Beach Club: Hipp Restaurant right at the Beach. The fish was fresh and so yummy and they even have a proper pizza oven – very tasty and amazing atmosphere.

Buddha Bakery: A hidden super cute place, desert heaven and great lunch spot. They have nice little spots where you can sit on the floor with couches or on tables and enjoy the quite and the view to the hills.

Lovina Dolphin Tours

My personal highlight was the dolphin tour. I was not sure whether we would even see a dolphin or not, so I was prepared for  disappointment. Early in the morning we took a boat and drove out to the see and after 15 minutes we arrived at a spot where the dolphins were playing around. There were so many of them and they were swimming next to the boat , jumping around and even did flips.

If you want you can even go snorkeling, but I just booked the dolphin tour, which is around 1.5 hours and costs 500’000 IDR. The boats usually leave around 6am in the morning and I heard that around this time there were so many boats, that it feels too touristy. I personally left at 8.30 am and there were only two other boats and dolphins everywhere.

This experience left me once again grateful and amazed by wonderful our nature is.
